The Western Wall (The Wailing Wall) stands inside the gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the remaining remnant of the Second Temple--the Holy Temple--the center of Jewish worship from 516 BC until the year 70.
It is one of the most holy sites in the Jewish faith.
The wall is segregated by gender. In the above pic, you can see a fence striking the middle of the frame. When facing the wall, men file to the left, women to the right.
Visitors from all over the world write their prayers on small slips of paper and stick them in the cracks of the wall.
While I stood at the wall, an Orthodox Jew named Abram approached me and asked in English if he could pray for me. He asked if he could pray for my father. My mother. My siblings. He asked if I had children, because he wanted to pray for them too. He placed his hand on my shoulder and prayed for me in Hebrew.
