The Plain Peanuts store anchors downtown Plains, the South Georgia home of President Jimmy Carter. When I say "downtown," I mean a single block of buildings lining the railroad tracks parallel to Hwy 27. You can't miss the store. They fly a giant red, white, and blue banner (see pic below in the post) praising their famous native son.
Yes, the free samples of fried peanuts, peanut brittle, and peanut ice cream are all worth a try, but the most interesting finds are the unopened Billy Beer cans sold for $5 a pop...
The beer was first produced in 1977 and endorsed by Jimmy's brother and the town's infamous native son, Billy Carter.
The can's label reads:
"Brewed expressly for and with the personal approval of one of America's all-time great beer drinkers - Billy Carter"
The beer was a discontinued before my time, but I'd love to hear about what it tasted like. Any Billy Beer stories?
